[SlideDeck2 id=1712]
Taylor Baldwin: Here’s to the weekend and here’s to all you college students watching us online. And of course those of you holding on to your crazy college days or those of you who just want to have fun. Tune in on TV, well, we have the CEO of Wagner Concepts INC, David Wagner, here to show us the new drinking board game. YEAH… talk about celebrating the weekend in style.
David Wagner: Yup
TB: So I love that David… I was at the Response Expo, we were doing a story there, and you came… and you are very, I love that you were very proactive. You hunted me down and introduced yourself and you pitched your product and I thought it’s [Drink-A-Palooza] a great product. Why don’t you tell us a little about the product and your background?
DW: OK, yeah so I invented a board game and it’s called Drink-A-Palooza… I took every drinking game and combined them into one. So everything from Beer Pong to Flip Cup, Quarters, Socials, so all of the games everyone is used to playing.
TB: Yeah
DW: And I put them all into one. I even put Spin the Bottle in there, we did not want just the normal spinner so we ended up using a spin the bottle so you can actually spin it. That’s how you choose the person you are going to play against.
TB: That’s how I got kissed for the first time.
DW: I think me too.
TB: And I actually fixed it so I could kiss the right person
DW: Oh you stopped it at the right time?
TB: Yeah [laugh] I knew exactly how hard to twist it. Okay, so keep talking, sorry.
DW: Yeah, so I basically took all of the games… you know when I was back in college, there were a couple games out there but there wasn’t anything main stream at that point. I think beer pong was just coming out and I noticed that everybody, whenever they were playing, there would only be a couple people playing. It was all night, one team was always the best, they never got off, so everybody always wanted to get on this table. So what I did was I took it to I would say the next level. I took every drinking game I knew, everything from high low to even flip cup now and I put them into one. The cool thing about this game is you can have up to 12 people playing all at once.
TB: I love it, show us how it works.
DW: So basically what you do is you start out and choose your game piece.
TB: And what is this? Like a 6-pack, a little 6-pack plastic… I don’t know if you guys can see that… see if you can go tight on that. It could be a wine holder or six pack of beer.
DW: Exactly… and what you do is you take your empty 6-pack holder, you choose the color… kind of like Trivial Pursuit. You know when you want to get, when you try and fill up your pie? So it’s the same concept. What you do is you start out, you spin the bottle to see who goes first.
TB: I’ll be purple, let me do it first.
DW: Okay go ahead…
TB: Girls first [laugh]
DW: So pretend that lands on you… you know if someone else is playing on that side [points to other side of table]
TB: Okay
DW: So they would start first… they would roll the dice… and when you roll the dice you move that amount of spaces.
TB: Okay
DW: When you land on a certain spot you are going to…
TB: Let’s do yours, so it would be one, two, three, four, five, six. Spin the bottle again for 2 sips. It says you have to take 2 sips.
DW: Exactly, so what you would do… [well] what I would do since that was my piece is I would spin the bottle and whomever it lands on. That person would have to take 2 sips. And then it would be your turn so give it a roll and see what happens… [rolls the dice] five.
TB: It says Social, what does that mean?
DW: Social is when everybody cheers and they all take a sip of their drink. So I brought a couple beers and I figure we can open them up and give it a shot. Here is one for you…
TB: Is this a G rated game?
DW: It’s not intended for alcohol but everyone tends to use it that way.
TB: It’s intended for root beer I take it.
DW: Right? Exactly.
TB: So take a sip?
DW: Yup
TB: Now your turn?
DW: Yup, my turn, now what I am going to do is actually, when you start the game, you put a little bit of whatever drink you are using in the middle cup. What that does is it balances it… so when you are shooting the ping pong into that cup.
TB: You actually shoot… let’s get to that one. Show us how that one works.
DW: So let’s say we land on beer pong. I would spin the bottle to see who I am going to play. It ends on us. It [Drink-A-Palooza] comes with your ping pong balls also and what you would do is stand back a little. But we can do a little demonstration from here.
TB: Okay
DW: You shoot and whoever gets it in first, they win the beer bottle.
TB: Does it need to bounce of the table?
DW: No, it does not need to bounce off the table. You just throw it right in there.
TB: Wait [laugh] I wasn’t ready!
DW: Give another shot.
TB: Does that mean I have to drink? Cause I…
DW: There you go… so you made it in and what happens is since you made it in you would get a beer bottle.
TB: And what would happen… Oh so I get it in my little six-pack?
DW: Right and the point of the game is to fill up your six-pack and when you fill up your six-pack you win the game.
TB: Ahhhh got it!
DW: And me… as a punishment, I would have to go and drink this…
TB: Even if there were balls in there? [laugh]
DW: You wash them off first. [laugh]
TB: Okay… I was like eeww. Oh my gosh… so again, how did you get inspired to create this game? Obviously you like these games…
DW: Well, I always had the entrepreneurial spirit and I’ve always had little things that I have come up with and this is something I’ve been working on for eleven years. Umm, about a year after I graduated college, I sat down and started drawing this thing out. And it actually took me a long time to get there but… you know I am finally here.
TB: This is great detail, better than a Monopoly Board Game… so do you manufacturer it here?
DW: No I actually manufacturer it overseas… but when it comes to the design I have a graphic background but also marketing and advertising.
TB: So you did a lot of this on your own… and that is what true entrepreneurials do, they do a lot of the work, the leg work but…
DW: I actually had the logo designed by somebody because I wanted a different opinion then I took the logo and basically built the game around it.
TB: I love it… so is it retail? Can people buy it now?
DW: We are actually… you can buy it online. It’s at www.drink-a-palooza.com
TB: Okay
DW: We are about to launch with Spencer Gifts also so it will be in stores shortly. And another thing we are actually doing is I’m going to be on a TV show called America’s Entrepreneurs.
TB: Wow!
DW: And that is a new show coming out. I think it’s supposed to air May 5th and it’s an LA (Los Angeles) channel on KDOC. Not sure if you have ever heard of them but either way, I am going to be on that show. What it does is it takes all of the Entrepreneurs and it goes through their life struggles and what they have done and how they got there so I am real excited about being there.
TB: Well congratulations to you. I just have one last question before we wrap. How are you not going to get sued? This is a high liability board game because you are encouraging drinking. How are you covering your backside on that one?
DW: Honestly, I know we used alcohol for our demonstration but it really isn’t intended for alcohol. It’s intended for any drinks you have…
TB: Kool-Aid right?
DW: Right, exactly so…
TB: Yeah… wink, wink [laugh] you need to put drink at your own risk, even the Kool-Aid.
DW: Well it is printed on the board.
TB: You put that everywhere in big print buddy… Good luck to you.
DW: Thank you very much for having me here.
